Apollo Micro Systems Limited (apollo) Achieves Major Milestone with Safety & Detonation Device Handover to Indian Navy
Apollo Micro Systems Limited (APOLLO) successfully handed over its indigenous Safety & Detonation Device to the Indian Navy, marking a significant step in de.
Apollo Micro Systems Limited (APOLLO) has made a significant achievement by handing over its indigenously developed Safety & Detonation Device (SDD) to the Indian Navy. This event marks a defining milestone in the naval weapon-system indigenisation under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The ceremony took place on 30th July 2026, in Hyderabad, India, in the presence of Rear Admiral Rupak Barua, Director General of Naval Inspection (DGNAI), Indian Navy, and senior officers from both the Indian Navy and Apollo Micro Systems Limited.
A Safety-Critical System at the Heart of Naval Firepower
The Safety Arming Device is a critical sub-system of modern munitions, ensuring that ordnance remains safe during storage, handling, transportation, and launch. Its reliability in the demanding maritime environment is crucial for the safety of the platform and crew, as well as the assured performance of the weapon. This handover signifies a strategic capability that secures the operational readiness of the Indian Navy’s weapon inventory on sovereign terms.
Proven Through Rigour: How Apollo Established the Capability
Apollo Micro Systems Limited worked closely with the Indian Navy to develop the SDD, following stringent international safety design philosophies. The device underwent comprehensive environmental qualification, including mechanical shock, vibration, temperature extremes, humidity, and marine environmental stress screening. Extensive functional, endurance, and safety-margin testing were conducted, followed by joint evaluation and acceptance trials with the Indian Navy. This successful journey exemplifies the collaborative industry-Navy model under the Swavalamban framework.
This achievement aligns with the Government of India’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, enhancing the nation’s strategic autonomy and compressing supply chains. Apollo Micro Systems Limited expects this success to lead to a healthy pipeline of production orders and follow-on programmes as the Indian Navy and other users induct indigenous safety and arming solutions.

Apollo Micro Systems Limited (NSE: Apollo) Enters High-value Precision Guided Munition Segment
Apollo Micro Systems Limited (NSE: APOLLO) empanelled by Indian Air Force for IPREK, marking entry into high-value precision guided munition segment.
Apollo Micro Systems Limited (NSE: APOLLO) today announced its empanelment by the Indian Air Force as a Prime Development Agency for the Indigenous Precision Range Extension Kit (IPREP) programme. This marks a significant milestone for the company as it enters India’s high-value precision guided munition (PGM) segment. The empanelment under the Make-II category of India’s Defence Acquisition Procedure 2020 signifies the Indian Air Force’s formal endorsement of Apollo Micro Systems’ capability to design, develop, and deliver a world-class precision guided weapon system entirely from Indian soil.
Strategic Importance of the IPREK Programme
The IPREK is a bolt-on precision guidance and range extension kit designed to transform India’s existing inventory of General Purpose (GP) 500 Kg unguided bombs into long-range precision glide weapons. A weapon fitted with the IPREK can be released from over 80–100 kilometres away and still land within 3 metres of its intended target, placing the carrier aircraft well beyond the reach of most air defence systems. The IPREK integrates India’s indigenous NavIC satellite navigation, making it one of the first weapon systems in the world to use the Indian satellite constellation at its core.
Market Opportunity and Business Potential
India’s Precision Guided Munition market is transitioning from import-dependence to indigenous manufacture driven by the Positive Indigenisation List, DAP-2020 Make-II policy, and hard lessons from recent regional conflicts about the strategic vulnerability of import-dependent weapon stockpiles. With 500+ IPREK units in the initial procurement phase and further demand across all IAF platforms, IPREK represents a durable, multi-year revenue opportunity for Apollo Micro Systems with strong margin characteristics.
As Apollo Micro Systems Limited continues to build its indigenous capability, it is well-positioned to lead future Indian precision weapon programmes across the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and the IAF’s expanding precision strike requirements. The company’s vision is to become India’s precision weapons future, leveraging its indigenous intellectual property, NavIC integration capability, and robust infrastructure to produce cutting-edge defence technologies at scale.
