Bharat Forge Limited (BFL) today announced the signing of a ₹425 crore contract with the Ministry of Defence (MoD), India, for the supply of Gas Turbine Generators (GTGs) to the Indian Navy for onboard power generation on Kolkata class ships. The contract, awarded under the Buy (Indian) category of the Defence Acquisition Procedure 2020 (DAP-2020), marks BFL’s entry into the marine gas turbine (GT) business.
Significant Milestone for BFL
This contract will be executed over a period of 5 years and involves the supply of GTGs rated at 1.25 MW to replace the lower capacity units currently in service onboard. BFL, a leader in India’s defence industry, will establish a dedicated Integration and Test facility for GTGs. Additionally, BFL will participate in design and development programs for larger power plants and propulsion GTs.
Boost to Local Production
The manufacturing capabilities developed under this contract will serve the significant needs of the Indian armed forces in general with local production, ensuring complete sovereignty on maintenance and overhaul operations of GTs/GTGs.
