Greaves Cotton Limited (GREAVESCOT) experiences an 11% intraday drop to ₹206.94, breaking below its support line after consolidating up..
Greaves Cotton Limited (GREAVESCOT) breaks below support, falling -11% today. This move follows the announcement that Greaves Electric Mobility’s Rights Issue Offer was fully subscribed, yet the market reacted negatively. Greaves Cotton operates in the specialty industrial machinery sector, and today’s decline appears to be company-specific rather than a sector-wide trend.
Technical setup — trendlines & DMA
Currently, GREAVESCOT is trading below its 6-month support trendline, which ends at ₹249.61, indicating a breakdown. The stock is also 20.62% below this support level and 45.48% below the resistance trendline at ₹301.05. The 50-DMA at ₹215.0 is above the 200-DMA at ₹182.3, signaling a bullish trend, but the stock is trading 8.23% above the 50-DMA, suggesting it is slightly extended. Within its 52-week range of ₹120.0 to ₹271.9, the stock is in the middle third, indicating that a significant portion of its potential move may already be priced in.
Snapshot: ₹206.94 on 2026-08-04 (chart frozen at publication)
Fundamentals & business context
With a PE of 50.9 and profit margins at 3.3%, GREAVESCOT appears overvalued relative to its current earnings, especially considering its revenue CAGR of 8.6%. The low institutional ownership of 2.9% suggests that institutional investors are cautious about the stock. There is no new NSE catalyst today beyond the rights issue subscription, which did not positively impact the stock price.
Algorithmic scorecard
The overall algorithmic scorecard reflects a technically strong but fundamentally weak position for GREAVESCOT. The strongest signals include the bullish trend indicated by the 50-DMA being above the 200-DMA and the bullish sentiment over the last 30 days, where up days saw significantly higher volume than down days. However, the weakest signals are the low profit margin of 3.3% and the overvalued PEG ratio of 4.59, which suggest thin profits and expensive valuation relative to growth. These factors highlight the risks associated with the stock’s current valuation and profitability.
Company outlook
Management outlined an ambitious forward guidance, aiming for 16% to 18% organic growth year-on-year in core businesses and maintaining EBITDA margins of 13% to 15% as the business scales. The company plans a CAPEX of INR 500 crores to INR 700 crores over the next 5 years, focusing on product development, capability enhancement, and international expansion. Additionally, GREAVESCOT intends to acquire the remaining 20% of Excel Controlinkage in Q2 and is exploring contract manufacturing opportunities and partnerships with OEMs. These initiatives underscore the company’s commitment to growth and expansion despite the current market challenges.
