Rategain Travel Technologies Limited Unveils Key Findings from the State of Distribution 2026 Report

Rategain Travel Technologies Limited (RATEGAIN) has unveiled significant findings from the third edition of The State of Distribution 2026 report, developed in collaboration with NYU School of Professional Studies and HEDNA. Based on insights from over 270 hotel brands and 58,000+ properties across 141 cities and 53 countries, the report provides a comprehensive view into the technology investment, AI adoption, distribution complexity, and changing traveler behavior in the hospitality industry.
AI Adoption vs. Real Impact
The report highlights that more than half of hotels now use or are procuring generative AI, indicating a rapid integration of technology into everyday work. However, fewer than one in ten hotels report reductions in manual work by more than 30 percent, suggesting that while AI adoption is high, its transformative impact remains limited. Trust, data privacy, and governance gaps are cited as factors that limit AI autonomy, with hotels cautious about allowing AI to make decisions or act independently.
Technology Investment Priorities
Hotels are investing more in optimizing existing systems rather than expanding with new platforms. The leading priorities include improving existing systems, increasing productivity, and reducing integration and vendor complexity. This shift reflects a move from systems of record to systems of work that help commercial teams interpret signals, coordinate decisions, and act with greater confidence.
Future Opportunities
The report identifies mid-sized hotel chains as a potential commercial “sweet spot.” These organizations are large enough to invest in systems and specialist capabilities but agile enough to avoid some of the silos and integration complexity affecting larger chains. Mid-sized chains report stronger cross-functional alignment, greater reporting automation, more mature AI governance, and the highest incidence of meaningful AI-led reductions in manual work.
Bhanu Chopra, Founder and Managing Director of RateGain, emphasized that the advantage will go to hotels that turn their technology into better decisions and give their teams their time back. Vanja Bogicevic, Clinical Associate Professor and Director of HI Hub Exchange, NYU School of Professional Studies, noted that the report reflects the evolving commercial operations in the hotel industry, with AI reshaping how travelers discover hotels, how commercial teams work, and how pricing and demand decisions are made.
